An open deal with no next action is a question mark
Find open deals with no clear next step, decide whether they are still active, and create an action that moves the conversation forward.

Why this matters
A deal can have a value, a stage, and a close date—and still have no clear path forward.
When you find an open opportunity with no next action, do not automatically create a reminder to “follow up.” First, work out what is missing.
Check the last conversation
Did you promise information? Did the buyer say they would review something? Is another person involved in the decision? Read the most recent context before deciding what should happen next.
Choose one of three outcomes
Act: You know what you owe the buyer, so complete it and record the result.
Clarify: You need to ask a specific question to establish the next step.
Reclassify: The opportunity is paused, lost, or not yet qualified enough to remain in your active pipeline.
A vague task does not make the deal healthier. A specific action or an honest status update does.
Prevent the problem on future calls
Before ending a sales conversation, confirm who is doing what and when. Record that agreement while it is fresh.
